About This Experience

Café de los Angelitos has been standing in Balvanera for over a century, and its place in tango history is not decorative: this is where Carlos Gardel set up his circle in 1912 and began the career that made him the voice of the form. In 1944 José Razzano wrote a tango named after the café, with lyrics by Cátulo Castillo.

The show tracks tango's own chronology, moving from the 1920s through to Piazzolla, which makes it the most useful night out on this site if you want to understand how the music actually developed rather than simply watch it performed. Twenty-one artists appear across the evening: six pairs of dancers, two singers and a live five-piece orchestra.

The room is smaller and more elegant than the big theatre productions, and the atmosphere is closer to a supper club than a revue. Tickets are sold with or without a three-course dinner; the dinner option adds unlimited soft drinks, beer and wine.
